Annual calendar disks
Stemming from a cooperative endeavour between Zenith and the Musée International d’Horlogerie (MIH), the El Primero Winsor Annual Calendar model is a unique complication model offering a combination that is unique in the world: the most accurate series-made caliber beating at the exceptional frequency of 36,000 vibrations per hour - the legendary El Primero by Zenith - partnered with a useful and innovative annual calendar complication. The constructor behind it is none other than Ludwig Oechslin, curator of the Musée International d’Horlogerie in La Chaux-de-Fonds (Switzerland). This passionately dedicated individual has devised an annual calendar displaying the day of the week, the date and the month, while requiring only one adjustment per year.
An annual calendar displaying
the day of the week, the date and
the month, while requiring only
one adjustement per year
The annual calendar is displayed by three concentric discs ensuring optimal readability. The outer disc indicates the date and the middle one the month, while the inner disc displays the day of the week. This mechanism is both simple and complex: for months with 31 days, the date disc moves the month disc forwards, while the month disc “skips” the 31 for months with 30 days. Only the transition from February to March requires a manual adjustment.

The clever, pared-down construction of this complication comprises just nine moving elements, thus ensuring enhanced accuracy compared with most calendars that have 30 or 40.
